Affective Computing

Affective Computing

The Affective Computing Research Group investigates issues surrounding affect (i.e., expressed emotion) and motivation for both users as well as technologies themselves. Current projects include:

  1. researching design issues for affective interface agents; and,
  2. developing an empirically-derived framework for Motivational Interface Design.

Affective Interface Agents

Through controlled and qualitative studies, we are investigating the role of interface agent affective state and type of support (e.g., attributional, motivaitonal, emotional, cognitive) on a variety of outcomes.

Developing an Empirically-derived Framework for Motivational Interface Design

In collaboration with Dr. John Keller, we are working to develop an empirically derived framework for Motivational Interface Design that will be applicable to online human-computer-interaction in a variety of contexts.
